Beltway’s outer loop begins to reopen near American Legion Bridge after crash

Posted by on Wednesday, 23 November 2016
Some lanes are now getting by on the outer loop of the Beltway near the American Legion Bridge in Maryland after a major crash involving vehicles and at least one truck, authorities said. But there are major backups on both sides of the Beltway that are said to be at least seven miles.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area. It is not clear how long the roadway will be closed. The crash is on the Beltway between the Cabin John Parkway and the American Legion Bridge. Several trucks are involved and hazmat crews are helping emergency responders at the scene. A truck is on top of two cars and another truck is leaking fuel, according to Pete Piringer, a spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire Department.
Here’s a look at the scene, which is nothing but traffic, traffic, traffic:
The closure comes as tens of thousands of people the highways for the Thanksgiving holiday. It’s not going to be pretty.
